Stop the Hate: For my Children and Yours

This world we live in is so hateful and crazy. I cannot believe that I used to think it was not as bad as it is, I was so wrong. When my ten year old daughter asks me if she is safe going to school and I have to pause and think about it, it is scary. She is not full Asian as I am not Asian, but being part Asian, she is afraid to go to school. She is afraid of being discriminated against because she is proud of her ancestry and has always been vocal about that part of her life. I have always taught her to do so. I don't want her to hide any bit of who she is for any reason and now she is afraid that because some part of her is a certain way, she will be discriminated against. That is not fair, she is too young to have that fear, yet here we are. Her fears are somethig that come with past bullying at school due to her being a "mixed breed" as some of the evil children used to call her. She never really was able to fit in with anyone due to her multiracial background. It is sad to think that we still live in a world where this is a problem.

Good job, America. Way to be hateful and embarrassing. I now it isn't only us. I know other countries are racists and hateful. Just right now, we are doing really shitty things when it comes to displaying that hate. It is not okay to kill people because you are racist. It is not okay to harm people at all, for any reason. Yet here we are, going back into history and repeating stupid mistakes. The worst part is how some people will blame this on religion or politics when it just comes down to basic human nature and manipulation. Sure, politics and religion can always be brought into anything, but people will do what people do and that is follow other people because they are instinctively meant to do so.  I know that my opinion isn't the popular one because blame likes to be placed, but I fully believe it to be true with all the studies I have read throughout my journey to get my bachelors.

Instead of placing blame, we should be doing something about it. Placing blame doesn't change anything at all. All this does is continue the hate circle and bitterness. We should be speaking out, we should be protecting our fellow HUMANS who are being harassed, we should do better. Do better as a society to protect those that need it the most. Use your white privilege to help those in need and stop just pretending you care. You can make grand gestures all you want in your head, but until you stand up to the people causing the problem, we are part of the problem. I refuse to let my children be the next victim. I will stand up for them and everyone else and their children. I would hope you would do the same. Stop placing blame and be part of the solution.

“Darkness cannot drive darkness; Light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; Love can do that.”– Martin Luther King (1963)
